Crediton Photography Club - Competition Rules

Introduction
These rules apply only to the internal competitions operated by the club. Different rules may apply to external contests, both friendly and competitive, and those will be published from time to time.

Internal competitions are included in the programme to give members the opportunity to have their work assessed by an outside judge and to compete for the club trophies. Members may enter, at their own discretion, in some or all of the categories in each competition and will have the opportunity to submit colour prints, monochrome prints and digital images suitable for projection.

Those who participate will have a critique on their entries by a judge, who is not a club member; he/she will award points to the entries in accordance with these competition rules

Although competitive, these activities are also meant to be enjoyable and judges will be encouraged to make their comments constructive, helpful and informative. The committee hopes that all members, whether their photographs are entered into a competition or not, will enjoy these events and find them a valuable aid in developing their own photographic interests and skills.

COMPETITION RULES:

GENERAL
1. The Club will hold 4 trophy competitions each season.

2. All entries can be produced by any method, and manipulation is allowed, with all parts of the photo taken being the author’s work.

3. The closing dates for entries will be stated in the club’s published programme. Entries must be delivered to the Club Competition Secretary or other nominated officer by the date stated in the programme.

4. No image may be entered more than once in the Club Trophy Competitions. Thus an image entered in one category may not subsequently be entered in another. All entries must have been produced within three years from September 1st of the current season. In the event of doubt, the club committee will decide whether a particular entry is sufficiently original to qualify in this respect.

5. All entries must have been created no longer than three years before the 1st September of the season in question. However the use of older source materials, such as slides, negatives or digital originals, is permitted.

6. The total marks for all entries in each separate category will be counted towards the final results.

7. Although reasonable care will be taken with all material submitted, neither the Club nor its officers will be responsible for any loss or damage to entries, however caused.

8. Unless members state otherwise, it will be assumed that any entries in the club competitions are available to represent the club in external competitions, if selected, and may therefore be retained until the end of the season.

9. The Club’s rules empower the committee to change or vary the competition rules and to arbitrate in any disputes,. The committees decision shall be final in all respects. Amendments to the rules will be notified to all members when necessary.

10. The judge will be asked to mark purely on the image, but will have discretion to comment on the presentation and the title.

PRINTS:

1. These will be divided in to two separate categories. Colour and Monochrome (Monochrome includes toned prints, provided no more than one tone is applied; prints incorporating more than one tone or tint must be entered in the colour section.)

2. In every competition, each member may enter up to 2 prints in each category (total max 4)

3. Prints must be titled on the back of the mount and show the competitor’s membership number only (the member’s name must not appear).

4. .Prints can be any size up to a maximum of 16" x 20" including mount. Mounts larger than this will not fit into the club’s or judges’ carrying portfolios and will be excluded from the entry.

5. Care should taken that any materials on the back of the mount (labels, tape, etc.,) mill not mark or damage adjacent prints during storage and transit.

DIGITALLY PROJECTED IMAGES:

1. There will only be one Trophy for this category, but monochrome and colour entries are welcome
2. A maximum of four digital images may be submitted in each competition.

3. Images must be submitted on CD, in the form of JPEG files at 72 pixels per inch. Maximum image size should be 1024 pixels horizontally and 768 pixels vertically. File size on disk should not exceed 2 megabytes.

4. The member’s name & membership number should be written on the CD. CDs will not normally be returned to members, so it is recommended that copies should be kept of any images submitted.

5. The jpeg files should have filenames which include the picture title. Nothing other than the image files should be put on the CD & in particular members should take reasonable care that no viruses or other harmful content is included.

The following sections apply to all categories of competition:

JUDGES

1. A Judge, who is not a member of the Club, will be appointed for each competition.
